Le Le – Slotmachine EP

After Le Le’s successful Marble EP comes a much anticipated new EP; Slotmachine. Will it live up to the hype?

After wondering if Twitter had any practical use at all, I stumbled upon a tweet saying Le Le’s new EP Slotmachine would be up for sale soon. I wanted to buy the songs for my girl who also happens to be a Magnetron Music fan. But she beat me to the punch..

‘We are Le Le’ is a funky uptempo disco-track laced with multi-language lyrics in English, German and French. I’ve been missing Disco-house quite a lot lately. After it’s peak days in the late ’90’s up to 2004 it completely disappeared from the scene. Except for some Myspace producers who don’t care about the latest trends. (I think you should’nt follow fashion in the first place. But then again, non-conformist is also not my cup of tea.) So, I’m glad to hear funky disco jams appearing again, also on this EP. But, to be honest, I don’t care much for the ’slotmachine’ track. Obscene lyrics and a repetitive melody that doesn’t do much for me. (I’m sorry guys.) It’s danceable enough, but does not whoop as much ass as it’s companion song.

The EP comes with two tracks, featuring an instrumental of ‘Slotmachine’ and a dub version of ‘We are Le Le’. Making a four track total.

聖者ニコラスは帰りました

Sinterklaas has returned to the Netherlands.

The guy and his helpers live in Spain and come to Holland and Belgium every year to give the kids candy and gifts. Why he doesn’t get a Dutch (or Belgian) citizenship is beyond me, because the trip (which he does by boat I might add) takes a long time! Oh well, Spain has a much better, much warmer, climate than the Netherlands. Who can blame him?

Le Le – Marble

A new release from the Dutch ghetto-tech-sters: Le Le – Marble

It’s been out for a few days now, and the iTunes store has been celebrating it’s release eversince, as it’s selling well! The first track, Douchebag Status, dives right into the all-electro action of the EP. This song together with Dr. Awkward are my favorite tracks due to the great synthesizer tracks which accompany the lyrics on this release.

Number 1 girl, backstage and Discomonster fill the EP nicely. More funky electro-tracks worth mentioning. (But, they didn’t grab my imagination as much as the above tracks.) I suggest you check it out for yourself, as taste tends to differ from person to person. (I’m just happy the person I bought this EP for likes the songs.) (<- Totally irrelevant to the readers! – Editor)

Faberge throws out quite a lot of (Dutch) profanities on this EP, especially in my third favorite track; Luxe Benen. As one could expect, coming from the band/rap-formation; De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig. (Who owe their great sound to the producer Bas Bron a.k.a. Bastian. Famous from the summer 2000 hit-single: You’ve got my love. The video was directed by Sandder.)

The entire release can be found in the iTunes store, and a whole load of other MP3 stores as well. Or, just keep an eye ear out on Studio Brussel, who will probably play (some of) these songs on-air.

(Ofcourse, Youtube serves all your needs well too..)
